The best area to stay in El Retiro is within the city centre, particularly around the main square, Parque Central.

This area is the heart of El Retiro, offering easy access to local amenities and a pleasant environment. You'll find the municipal building, the main church, and various shops and eateries concentrated around the square, making it very convenient for exploring on foot.

For couples looking for a relaxed and authentic experience, staying near Parque Central is ideal. You can enjoy strolls through the park, sample local cuisine at nearby restaurants, and experience the day-to-day life of the town. It's a good base for exploring the surrounding natural attractions.

Solo travellers will also appreciate the convenience of the city centre. With everything within walking distance, it's easy to navigate and connect with local culture.

The best time to visit El Retiro is during the dry season, which runs from May to December.

During these months, you'll experience consistently clear skies and pleasant temperatures, typically ranging from 20 to 28 degrees Celsius. This weather is ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region, particularly the nearby cloud forests and pre-Incan ruins without the interruption of heavy rainfall. It's also the superb time for outdoor activities like hiking and birdwatching.

While the wet season (January to April) brings lush greenery, it also means more frequent and sometimes heavy downpours, which can make travel and outdoor excursions less comfortable. Roads can be more challenging to navigate, and some trails might be muddy or inaccessible.
